A drone strike hit the United States Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Tuesday, triggering an immediate regional security lockdown and a simultaneous wave of explosions across Cyprus.
Aviation authorities grounded all flights to and from Cyprus following the detonations. The US State Department ordered American citizens to evacuate 15 countries across the Middle East immediately.
Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides identified the wreckage of the drones used in the attacks as Iranian-made. Officials traced the flight paths to launch points in Lebanon, a primary operating base for Hezbollah.
The UAE Ministry of Defence intercepts a barrage of ballistic missiles originating from Iran. This follows threats from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to ignite any vessel attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

IRGC leader Sardar Jabbari stated that the United States moved the majority of its aircraft to Cyprus. Jabbari declared that Iran will launch missiles at Cyprus with such intensity that the Americans will be forced to leave the island.
The Israeli military moved troops into southern Lebanon to neutralize launch sites. Defence Minister Yoav Gallant confirmed the ground deployment as Israel launched fresh attacks on Tehran and Beirut.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the hardest hits from the US military are yet to come. Former President Donald Trump warned that the most severe kinetic actions have not yet occurred.
The strike on the Riyadh embassy follows decades of US-Saudi security cooperation established under the 1951 Mutual Defense Assistance Agreement. Riyadh remains the world’s largest importer of US defence equipment, totaling over $100 billion in active sales.
Cyprus serves as a critical strategic node, housing the UK’s Sovereign Base Areas which cover approximately 98 square miles of the island. The RAF Akrotiri installation provides the primary launch point for Western aerial operations in the Levant.
Global energy markets reacted sharply to the IRGC threat regarding the Strait of Hormuz, a transit point for 21 million barrels of oil per day. This volume represents roughly 21% of global petroleum liquid consumption.
The UK-US relationship is fractured over the approach to Iran, according to Ezra Cohen. Cyprus challenged the use of RAF Akrotiri and the nature of UK communications during the crisis.

The US State Department’s evacuation order for 15 countries impacts hundreds of thousands of expatriates and diplomatic staff. This mass movement of personnel marks one of the largest diplomatic withdrawals in recent history.
Security forces in Riyadh established a multi-layered exclusion zone around the embassy district. Armored vehicles and electronic jamming equipment now line the perimeter, signaling a shift toward a permanent high-alert posture.
The IRGC continues to signal its intent to disrupt global shipping lanes if Western intervention persists. Any closure of the Strait of Hormuz would immediately impact the energy security of major global economies.
In Cyprus, the government is assessing the damage to infrastructure in Larnaca while coordinating with British forces at Akrotiri. The island's role as a safe haven for Western assets is now under direct military challenge from regional proxies.
