Russell Brand arrived at Southwark Crown Court today for his rape and sexual assault trial.
The alleged offenses span a decade, dating between 1999 and 2009. Mr Justice Bennathan, the presiding judge, amended one charge of indecent assault against Brand to attempted indecent assault.
Police questioned Brand four times between November 2023 and July 2025 regarding these allegations.
Brand has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Brand claims his past "very promiscuous" celebrity lifestyle, which involved kissing fans and sleeping with numerous women, has been "unfavourably reframed" into these claims. He maintains he has "never engaged in any non-consensual sexual activity."

I’m very grateful that today is the day for truth and justice.

Brand stated that a "defamatory and fictitious documentary" broadcast on 16 September 2023, along with reports in two national newspapers containing "false anonymised allegations," led to extensive media coverage. He claims this prompted both the media and police to invite additional allegations, resulting in further encounters being "invented or reimagined."
Brand asserts that the sexual misconduct allegations, first made in 2023 following an investigation by The Times, Sunday Times, and Channel 4, are "false." He added that the "magnitude of the promiscuity" he described, coupled with calls for complainants, has caused consensual encounters to be "unfavourably reframed decades later."
Russell Brand said, "Due to the circumstances of the day I think it would be inappropriate for me to say anything other than I’m very grateful that today is the day for truth and justice." He added, "we are blessed that as of yet we have a system that can accommodate such things."
