Russell Brand is on trial for raping and sexually assaulting a series of women.
Brand asserted he never engaged in "non-consensual sexual activity" during police interviews conducted between 2023 and 2025. He told detectives that sexual misconduct allegations, first made in 2023, are "false."
Ian Winter KC, Brand's barrister, informed the court the former TV personality denies any non-consensual sex. Winter stated some encounters with the women have been "reimagined" since the initial accusations.
Brand claims his "very promiscuous" celebrity lifestyle has been "unfavourably reframed" into rape and sexual assault claims. He said, "I led a very promiscuous life in the past, which I have spent years openly denouncing."

He further stated, "I had sexual encounters in countless locations and scenarios often with people I had just met." Brand added, "I have had consensual sex in toilet cubicles during parties."
Brand said he did not recall the women who have come forward to accuse him. He stated it is "entirely possible that I may have encountered them and that we may have engaged in consensual sexual activity or physical contact that has since been reimagined."
He claims the "magnitude of the promiscuity, deceptively rendered in recent media attacks, accompanied by advertisements for complainants, have caused consensual encounters to be unfavourably reframed decades later." Brand also said, "As I stated at the outset, I have never engaged in any non-consensual sexual activity."
Brand claims the allegations were made in "a defamatory and fictitious documentary." He said it contained "false and anonymised" interviews. He stated, "On 16 September 2023, a defamatory and fictitious documentary was broadcast in conjunction with the publication of two national newspapers containing false anonymised allegations which led to unprecedented media reporting."
He further claims both the media and the police publicly invited additional allegations. This, he said, has resulted in further encounters being invented or reimagined.
Helen Berger gave evidence in court on Monday. She claims Brand asked his assistant to get the phone numbers of his female fans for him, a request that made her feel "really weird."
Berger later told the comedian she would not do it again. She claims she felt Brand’s bad behaviour was "normalised."
An allegation of indecent assault was changed to a charge of attempted indecent assault during the trial. Brand said it is "likely" he was at an event where he is accused of sexual assault and rape, but added, "At no point would I have touched (her) breasts unless it was consensual."
