Russell Brand faces prison after convictions for rape and sexual assault.
Metropolitan Police detectives questioned Brand on four separate occasions between 2023 and 2025 regarding allegations of rape and sexual assault. These convictions stem from an investigation by journalists from The Sunday Times, The Times, and Channel 4 Dispatches, which published its findings in September 2023.
A jury found Brand guilty of sexually assaulting a woman in a Nordic bar in Soho, central London, in 2004. A Capital Radio worker also stated Brand forced himself on her during a visit to the station in 2005.
Brand was further convicted of anally raping a 21-year-old superfan in his Hampstead townhouse in 2009. His legal team considers all options, including an appeal on the grounds of an unfair trial.
The court cleared Brand of two further charges of rape and one allegation of attempted indecent assault. He was denied bail and will spend the weekend in custody.
Brand returns to court on Monday to learn his prison sentence. Upon arrival at the south London jail, he underwent a strip-search and moved to an induction wing.
Authorities medically examined Brand and provided him with a prison tracksuit, toiletries, food, and a bible. He is held in a holding cell, monitored around the clock, and blocked from mixing with other inmates.
Brand received one three-minute phone call, believed to be to his wife, Laura Gallacher. On Friday, a nurse and a wellbeing specialist will assess him.
The Met also confirmed ongoing investigations into two further allegations of rape against Brand. One allegation comes from a woman who dated Brand when he was 30 and she was a 16-year-old schoolgirl.
