At least 12 people have been killed and 33 wounded after an overnight Russian missile barrage attack on Kyiv.
Fires erupted in a medical facility, other buildings, and numerous cars, with individuals trapped in two residential buildings and a school shelter. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed people were also trapped elsewhere as Moscow targeted non-residential and apartment facilities, warehouses, and a children's hospital.
Authorities scramble to rescue anyone trapped beneath the rubble of demolished buildings. Crews already pulled one survivor from debris, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (DSNS) reported.
Meanwhile, a Russian drone reportedly struck a minibus in Kherson on Wednesday, killing four people.
Separately, Ukraine’s parliament approved Yevhenii Khmara as the new defence minister. Volodymyr Zelenskyy also fired by decree Iryna Mudra, one of his senior aides, whose house officials reportedly searched as part of an alleged money-laundering scheme.
A criminal conspiracy reportedly involved high-ranking officials from the office of the president and several others, according to the Nabu anti-corruption agency.
Ukraine escalated its retaliatory strikes on Russia in recent months. Russia reportedly imports refined petroleum products to stabilise supply.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko declared Friday a day of mourning in the city following the devastating attacks.
