The Met Office has issued an amber extreme heat warning, projecting temperatures to reach 34C on Monday across significant parts of England and Wales.
A heatwave requires a minimum three-day stretch where temperatures remain above a specific threshold, set at 28C for London. This heatwave threshold will likely be met across southern and eastern England, with some urban areas experiencing overnight temperatures climbing above 20C.
The current forecast indicates a 40 percent chance of exceeding the highest-ever temperature recorded for June, pushing the country towards historical thermal benchmarks. England and Wales recorded their warmest spring on record, establishing a pattern of escalating temperatures leading into the summer months.

Consequently, the RNLI and HSE issued advisories, urging extreme caution regarding cold water shock. They emphasize the critical need for workplace safety measures during this period.
Employers bear the responsibility to ensure their workers receive adequate protection throughout the heatwave. They must implement strategies to mitigate heat-related risks.
Very high temperatures could persist across a smaller section of the country into the middle of the week, prolonging the period of elevated risk. Meanwhile, the Met Office indicated the hot spell may culminate in thundery downpours on Monday and Tuesday.
These potential storms introduce an additional layer of complexity. Rapid temperature shifts and localized flooding can create further hazards.
