Angie Marcela Ramírez Vargas, 27, was shot and killed while in her car at traffic lights in Pitalito, Huila, Colombia, prompting a police manhunt and an immediate arrest.
Bystanders and emergency responders rushed to assist Ms. Vargas, who was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead.
Police immediately launched a manhunt following the incident, leading to the arrest of a 48-year-old man suspected of firing the shots.
Javier Alberto Duarte confirmed the rapid police response: "We set up an operational device and, thanks to the immediate reaction of our officers, we achieved the capture in the act of a 48-year-old man after a wide pursuit."
A second suspect, however, managed to flee the scene and remains at large; authorities continue their efforts to locate this individual.
Ms. Vargas drove a short distance after being shot before losing control of her car.
Local accounts suggest several men on motorcycles drove up to her vehicle, allegedly opened fire repeatedly, and then sped away.
Police initiated a pursuit, cordoned off the area, and confiscated a motorcycle and a firearm in connection with the ongoing investigation.
This incident marks the 46th homicide recorded in Pitalito in 2025.
Nationally, Colombia has recorded 621 femicides since September 2025.
