A 61-year-old man faces murder charges following the death of Eleanor Barnfield in Bridgend.
Barnfield, 47, died on Monday, October 19, after her car hit a wall. Emergency crews arrived within minutes of South Wales Police receiving the call at approximately 12:43pm.
The mother-of-two, who worked for a housing association, sustained "puncture wounds" from a stabbing. These injuries were unrelated to the subsequent car crash.
South Wales Police arrested a 61-year-old Bridgend man on Tuesday at Ger-y-Nant, a retirement housing complex. Police claim Barnfield was attacked at work.
Neighbours, however, claim Ms. Barnfield attempted to drive herself to the hospital after the alleged stabbing. This account suggests she sought medical care when the crash occurred.
She meant everything to us and will be forever loved and missed deeply by her devoted family and friends. She was our rock.
Ms. Barnfield’s family described her as the "kindest, most loving bravest person in the world." They added, "She meant everything to us and will be forever loved and missed deeply by her devoted family and friends. She was our rock."
The Welsh Ambulance Service addressed contradictory and misleading rumours circulating on social media. A spokesman stated that claims of a delayed ambulance response, suggesting Barnfield drove herself due to wait times, are factually untrue.
