Monzo has reported technical issues affecting its banking app.
Customers still make card payments, withdraw cash, freeze cards, and send and receive bank transfers. Bank balances remained visible, though transaction updates faced potential delays.
A Monzo spokesman confirmed the situation, stating, “We’re currently experiencing a technical issue and are working to resolve this as soon as possible.” The bank moved into its back-up system, Monzo Stand-in, the spokesman added.

The spokesman further clarified that customers could still perform most functions on their Monzo app, including sending bank transfers, making card payments, and ATM withdrawals. An automated phone message states: 'Don't worry, your money is safe and your card should work as normal.'
However, users on X claim Monzo Stand-in was not working as expected; some still report an inability to use their cards. One user on X also claims the backup bank lacks stated functionality, preventing bank transfers.
Monzo, founded in 2015 and serving over 15 million retail customers, prepares for a leadership change. Gary Hoffman, Monzo's chairman, is set to step down in early September after seven years, with Karen Peacock, a Monzo board member, serving as interim chairman.
Separately, DownDetector recorded a simultaneous spike in outage reports for Santander around midday today.
