Man Charged with Manslaughter After Fatal Dog Attack in Wakefield

A 55-year-old man has been charged with manslaughter following a fatal dog bite incident.
West Yorkshire Police received calls at 1:36 PM, reporting an altercation and a man bitten by a dog on the old trainline footpath off Blacker Lane in Calder Grove, Wakefield.
The victim was transported to hospital in critical condition, dying shortly after 7 PM.
Lee Ellis, 55, has been charged with manslaughter in connection with the death.
West Yorkshire Police also claim Ellis is due to appear in court charged with being the owner of a dog dangerously out of control.
West Yorkshire Police indicated that A German Shepherd dog, seized as part of the investigation, is currently being held in police kennels.
Ellis has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at Leeds Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
The family of the deceased are receiving support from specially trained officers.
Detectives are making an appeal for any witnesses to come forward, particularly two people who stopped to assist the injured man.
