One dead, five injured in multi-vehicle crash

A fatal collision on Wigan Road has resulted in one death and five injuries.
A red Seat Leon and a Citroen C4 Picasso were involved in the incident on Wigan Road, resulting in the death of the Citroen's driver at the scene.
The driver of the red Seat Leon and two passengers—named locally as Mohammed Jibrael Mukhtar, Farhan Patel, and Muhammad Danyaal Asghar Ali—were also involved in the collision.
Formal identification of the deceased is ongoing, and the other casualties have not yet been formally identified.
Five other individuals were rushed to hospital following the crash, which occurred on a 30mph stretch of Wigan Road.
Wigan Road remains closed as police continue their investigation. A scene remains in place and investigators are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
Specialist family liaison officers are supporting the families of the deceased as they are informed of the tragic news.
Councillor Altaf Patel stated that the taxi driver was from Blackburn, a fact also reported by local news sources.
Ayyub Patel, councillor for Rumworth, said the community is deeply saddened by the news.
One resident described the road as "dangerous and really bad," particularly at night.
Another resident expressed frustration, stating that "something needs to be done" as incidents occur on the road "every month."
The cause of the collision remains unknown. Greater Manchester Police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
