A yellow weather warning for dense fog covers southern, central, and eastern England until 10am today.
The Met Office issued a severe warning for London, the South East, East Midlands, West Midlands, and the East of England. Visibility in these regions plummeted below 100 meters.
Travel delays are anticipated across all transport sectors. Bus, train, ferry, and flight services face widespread cancellations and schedule changes. The fog is expected to lift slowly for most regions later this morning, though it may persist into the afternoon in some rural eastern areas.
A building area of high pressure brings quieter weather. This high pressure will dominate across the UK in the coming days.
Early morning mist and fog patches on Saturday may lift into low cloud, which could linger all day. A weak weather front will bring thicker cloud and rain to north-west Scotland for a time.
By Sunday, a dying weather front is expected to bring thicker cloud to Wales and central England, with a few patches of light rain or drizzle. The rest of the UK will have a dry day with variable cloud and some spells of sunshine.

82% of England remains in drought status.

Despite the immediate fog, 82% of England remains in drought status, according to the Environment Agency. Water companies are being urged to speed up fixing leaks. The public is advised to take shorter showers and turn off taps when brushing teeth.
