Crowley Secures Democratic Nod for Wisconsin Governor

Crowley amassed 313,321 votes; Hong secured 310,110 as of Wednesday morning.

Crowley's campaign focused on electability in the final weeks, positioning him as the stronger candidate against US Representative Tom Tiffany.

Tiffany, a Republican congressman and staunch supporter of Donald Trump, ran unopposed in his party's primary.

Hong, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), campaigned on a platform that reportedly included universal childcare, free school meals, and a moratorium on new datacenter construction.

Her campaign also received an endorsement from Hasan Piker.

However, Hong's previous statements, including a now-deleted post from November 16, 2020, where she said 'Cancel Thanksgiving' and suggested it 'should have been done in 1621' to stop 'celebrating colonialism,' reportedly hindered her campaign in recent days.

Past support for defunding the police also reportedly impacted her standing.

Republicans are already understood to be targeting Hong on these past positions, which she has since walked back or no longer supports.

She reportedly stated in an interview that Thanksgiving is her 'favorite holiday' and she does not want to cancel it, despite also acknowledging it is 'incredibly painful for many people'.

Centrist Democrats are reportedly relieved that the party's general election candidate will not carry the perceived political baggage of a 'socialist' label or the positions on policing associated with the DSA.

Polls had reportedly shown Hong as a clear frontrunner, but an ever-changing field and a large undecided voter bloc made accurate polling difficult.

Crowley will now face Tom Tiffany on November 3, in a state that Donald Trump carried by less than a point in 2024.

Elsewhere, Mandela Barnes withdrew from the US Senate race on July 31st.

Rebecca Cooke will reportedly challenge Derrick Van Orden in the third congressional district race.

Abdul El-Sayed won the Democratic primary for Michigan's US Senate seat, while Darline Graham Nordone advanced to a run-off vote in a special Republican primary for the US Senate in South Carolina.
