Elizabeth Waddell, a 44-year-old American woman, has vanished while on holiday in St. George, Grenada, sparking an urgent search operation.
Elizabeth Waddell vanished from Grenada, last observed near her Airbnb, which offered commanding views of the bay. Authorities launched a formal investigation after locating her towel on a nearby pier.
The Royal Grenada Police Force immediately filed a missing persons report, mobilizing an extensive search. They coordinate these critical efforts with local fishermen, boat operators, and area residents.
Security video captured Waddell entering the water near a pier at Grand Anse Beach. The footage shows her subsequently drifting out of frame.
A family friend corroborated this account, stating Waddell was last seen entering the water and then drifting out of frame. This aligns precisely with the reported video evidence, solidifying the timeline of her disappearance.
She had her swimsuit on, and she went outside their Airbnb.
Amanda Romano-Harmon, a family friend, confirmed, "She had her swimsuit on, and she went outside their Airbnb."
Romano-Harmon explained Waddell had been sightseeing from the pool, which overlooked the bay, while a friend engaged in an online course. This paints a picture of a tranquil afternoon.
"When she got through with her course, she looked up and she didn't see Liz outside, so she went outside to walk around and see where she went, and she saw her towel down on the pier," Romano-Harmon stated, detailing the moment the alarm was raised.
Romano-Harmon added, "So the only thing we can think is maybe she went for a swim," a hypothesis that now drives the core of the investigation.
Her husband, Cailen Waddell, issued an urgent appeal for information, leveraging the power of social media. He posted: My wife Liz is missing in Grenada. If any of you have connections to the island – can you please share the following with your contacts there?
Cailen Waddell further stated, "Liz went missing in the afternoon on Wednesday. I am on my way there now to help search."
The U.S. State Department monitors the situation. This engagement highlights the diplomatic implications of a U.S. citizen's disappearance abroad.
Cailen Waddell praised the local authorities, stating, "The police have been wonderful." He acknowledged their immediate and sustained response.
He confirmed, "The investigation is ongoing. The police have been incredibly communicative and have done everything it seems like they could be doing to help find her."
The discovery of her towel on the pier, combined with the reported video evidence, suggests she may have entered the water. Her current location remains unknown, fueling intense speculation.
The ongoing search mobilizes multiple local stakeholders, including the Royal Grenada Police Force. Efforts continue relentlessly in the tranquil waters of Grenada.
