Two Constables Among Seven Dead in A66 Collision

Two Cleveland Police constables died in a head-on collision on the A66 at South Bank.
Players and spectators observed a minute's silence and applauded at Riverside Stadium. Middlesbrough FC stated, "The commitment shown by officers and staff, often in challenging and demanding circumstances, plays a vital role in keeping residents safe and helping people feel secure in their homes, neighbourhoods and local areas."
In the wake of a recent collision, Cleveland Police officers have been tackling alleged organized crime with relentless force. Earlier this week, 17 people were arrested, bringing the total number of arrests to 24.
Four men were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage with intent to endanger life after a vehicle crashed into a house in Steele Crescent, Middlesbrough. These same four men are also being questioned over alleged arson and a drugs offence; they were reportedly in a vehicle when stopped by police on Kingsley Road in Grangetown.
Hundreds of extra police officers have been deployed to Middlesbrough and County Durham.
Separately, a house fire in Steele Crescent, Middlesbrough, resulted in the deaths of Natalie McDonald and her seven-year-old niece, Valentina Foster. Two men are in custody on suspicion of murder in connection with the house fire, but detectives confirmed they are not linking this tragedy to the A66 crash.
