A rave party near a horse racing track in Schachen, Aarau, erupted in gunfire.
A rave drew approximately 3,500 attendees into the early hours of Sunday, an annual techno party running from 3 pm the previous day until 2 am that morning at the Aarau racecourse.
Witnesses mistook gunshots for fireworks before other attendees instructed them to take cover; police found cartridges indicating two calibres of bullets at the crime scene, suggesting multiple weapons were involved.
All victims are residents of Switzerland and in their 20s; Swiss authorities informed Italy that an Italian woman had died.
The motive and exact circumstances of the shooting remain unclear, according to local police; Aargau Cantonal Police state that possible motives and the precise circumstances of the crime are still unknown, with the identities of the perpetrators currently unestablished.
