Record 230 Migrants Cross Channel in Single Boat

A single vessel carrying 230 people crossed the English Channel on Saturday, marking the largest number recorded in one boat.
Nigel Farage declared, "At 2.30am this morning a boat carrying 230 people was taken into Dover. This is a record number in a single vessel." Farage characterized the situation as "yet more proof that this illegal invasion is a national security emergency."
People smugglers are reportedly cramming more passengers into larger dinghies, a tactic understood to evade French authorities and increase the risk of mass tragedy.

Last Tuesday, a mega-dinghy carrying 173 people required rescue after its motor caught fire. A large deflated dinghy was later pictured on the quayside at the Border Security Command compound in Dover.
French police reportedly observed migrants, including a baby and young children, boarding a dinghy on Sunday.
Despite this significant single incident, total small boat crossings for the year remain lower than in previous years, with around 14,000 arrivals between January and July. The number of people crossing the Channel this year has reportedly fallen by more than 40% compared with the same period last year.
A Home Office spokesperson acknowledged progress, stating, "We are making progress, with the number of small boat crossings down this year and the lowest number recorded for the month of July since 2020." The spokesperson added, "But we must go further, which is why we have signed a payment-by-results deal with the French to put 40% more boots on the ground on French beaches."

Officials claim that despite a 43 per cent reduction in the number of migrants reaching Britain year-on-year, the demand for illegal crossings in migrant camps in northern France remains constant.
The Home Office spokesperson condemned the tactics, stating, "This latest incident demonstrates the reckless and dangerous tactics employed by the criminal gangs facilitating these crossings, who continue to put lives at risk by cramming ever greater numbers of people onto unseaworthy vessels."
The 230 arrivals are yet to be officially confirmed by the Home Office. Labour's plan to tackle the Channel crisis aims to reduce the number of migrants reaching Britain.
