An armed police operation at Alexander Stadium caused significant disruption and delays for spectators and athletes on Saturday.
The arrest followed a security concern around 8:15 p.m. when authorities found the suspect in a stadium area, holding incorrect accreditation.
Police took the man into custody, where he remained as of Sunday morning; searches on buses became part of the ongoing investigation.
Buses were prevented from leaving the stadium for over an hour, and security staff held crowd members outside for a similar duration after the event concluded.
A substantial police presence, marked by blue flashing lights, was observed on the main road outside Alexander Stadium, Alex Ridout confirmed.
The cancellation of medal ceremonies was understood to be directly linked to the police incident, as several social media users claimed a 'security incident' had occurred.
Organisers and police affirmed there was no immediate public threat, stressing that safety remained their highest priority while apologising for the inconvenience.

We apologise for the significant delays in leaving the Alexander Stadium venue this evening.
