Senator Jon Ossoff won re-election in the Georgia Senate race, defeating Republican Representative Mike Collins.
Ossoff’s campaign relentlessly targeted Donald Trump and political corruption. Simultaneously, it highlighted critical constituent work on infrastructure and hurricane relief. This dual approach built broad local support across Georgia.
Collins, in stark contrast, anchored his campaign to immigration enforcement and anti-transgender policies. He directly blamed former President Joe Biden for rising costs of living.
The race saw Ossoff repeatedly attack Collins over his strict adherence to Trump, an unresolved House ethics investigation, and documented ties to white nationalists. These aggressive attacks effectively prevented Collins from painting Ossoff as overly liberal.
Collins’ son-in-law, David Alan Scheer II, openly advocated white supremacist and Nazi views online. Furthermore, Collins’ former chief of staff, Kip Talley, and other aides met with prominent white nationalists Nick Fuentes and Richard Spencer.
A former Collins staffer, Preston Parra, posted images of a swastika and himself in Ku Klux Klan robes. Collins’ office also sought intervention on behalf of Charles C Johnson, a Holocaust denier and right-wing activist incarcerated on contempt of court charges.
Ossoff amassed nearly $125 million by the end of September. Collins, meanwhile, raised a mere $5.8 million.
NBC and CBS News called the race. Georgia remains a pivotal swing state; President Donald Trump won the state in 2024, and Raphael Warnock secured re-election in 2022.
Ossoff's convincing victory immediately rekindles speculation about a potential 2028 presidential run.
