Democrats have regained control of the US Senate.
Democratic state representative James Talarico secured a Texas Senate seat by a double-digit margin. This followed Trump's endorsement of scandal-plagued Texas attorney general Ken Paxton over longtime US senator John Cornyn, leading to Cornyn's primary loss and creating an opening for Democrats in a Republican stronghold.
Democrat Annie Andrews beat Darline Graham to claim the South Carolina Senate seat. A Democrat has not won a Senate race in that state in 38 years. Jon Ossoff secured re-election in Georgia, and Chris Pappas retained New Hampshire.
Roy Cooper stated, "Tonight, we showed the country that when everyday people come together, we can make change." Cooper added, "I’m not going to Washington to be something; I’m going to Washington to do something."

Chris Pappas reflected on the campaign, noting, "This has been a long campaign against the backdrop of chaos, corruption and costs coming out of Washington." Meanwhile, Republican Byron Donalds was elected Florida's first black governor.
Kansas has not sent a Democrat to the Senate since 1932. North Carolina’s Republican senator Thom Tillis announced his retirement, further altering the political landscape.
Donald Trump had promised every adult US citizen 5,000 dollars (£3,721) if his party maintained control of both the House and Senate. Despite this, Trump stated, "I think the results are going to be better than you think."
The president may seek to dispute the outcome of some races that go against his party, given his previous claims about voter fraud. Following these Democratic victories, Donald Trump has been branded a "failed lame duck president."
Jon Ossoff declared, "In sweeping and decisive victories the American people have rebuked the depravity, corruption, and incompetence of the failed lame duck president Donald J Trump." He added, "And if, at times these last two years, amidst the ceaseless onslaught of brutality and indecency, you doubted whether our republic would survive, let tonight’s results give you courage that the first light of dawn is on the horizon."
