The UK's electricity grid faces unprecedented strain from a surge in data centre development, prompting energy regulator Ofgem to consider implementing a substantial upfront 'commitment fee' for large projects.
The escalating demand for data center connections now significantly exceeds the UK's peak energy requirement of 45GW. Ofgem has directly intervened, addressing the growing pressure on the national grid.
