Musician D4vd Faces Murder Charges After Celebrity Lawyers Withdraw

Prosecutors claim Burke invited the teenager to his Hollywood Hills home, killing her to prevent the revelation of their lengthy sexual relationship, which threatened his music career.

Evidence presented in court included text messages from Hernandez threatening Burke. The teen's body was found on September 8; the vehicle was reportedly towed three days earlier while parked near Burke's Hollywood Hills home.

Small, blue plastic fragments from an inflatable pool were reportedly found embedded in the victim's remains. Los Angeles Judge Charlaine Olmedo found sufficient evidence to proceed to trial.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office is considering whether to seek the death penalty, with special circumstance allegations including lying in wait, murder for financial gain, and killing a witness in a criminal investigation.

Separately, D4vd's legal team, consisting of Blair Berk, Marilyn Bednarski, and Regina Peter, withdrew from his murder trial. The lawyers stated: "We continue to support David and his defense against these serious charges."

Burke has since been appointed a public defender; the Los Angeles County Public Defender's Office now handles his defence. Walid Kandeel stated: "We recognize the loss of life underlying the allegations and extend our sympathies to those who are grieving. At the same time, David Burke is entitled to a defense that takes his circumstances seriously and carefully examines the evidence."

An arraignment is scheduled for August 31, with a status conference set for October; no trial date has yet been established.
