Axel Rudakubana, a convicted murderer, is scheduled to appear at the Old Bailey.
Rudakubana faces additional charges of assaulting emergency workers. These include throwing liquid at a female officer and punching a male officer.
Prosecutors confirmed Rudakubana was charged on Tuesday, July 28. The case moved to the Old Bailey; the alleged assaults occurred at HMP Belmarsh last year.
On May 8 last year, Rudakubana allegedly threw boiling water mixed with sugar through a hatch on his cell door at Belmarsh prison in south London. The male officer received urgent medical attention and returned to work the same day.
Two days before the hot water incident, Rudakubana allegedly threatened to "soak" a female officer outside his cell if she did not pass him a newspaper. He then threw an unknown liquid at her.
Rudakubana also allegedly punched a male officer on October 28, 2025, after a challenge about taking medication. In June last year, sharpened stone shards, thought to have been pried from his cell floor, were found stuck to the underside of a shelving unit.
Broadmoor is a high-security hospital in Berkshire. It houses individuals with mental disorders who cannot be safely managed in prison. Rudakubana claimed after the alleged boiling water attack that prison officers had been poisoning his food.
