Man Arrested After Girl's Death in Arbroath

Nine-year-old found with serious injuries at industrial estate; family from West Yorkshire supported by specialist officers.

A nine-year-old girl died in Ninewells Hospital after being found with serious injuries at Elliot Industrial Estate in Arbroath.
Nicky McGovern confirmed: "She was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee where she later died. A 35-year-old man has been arrested in connection with her death, which is being treated as suspicious."
Police Scotland established the arrested man and the deceased girl knew each other.
The girl's family, from West Yorkshire, had been camping in the area; specialist officers now provide them support.

A police cordon remained in place at the industrial estate, featuring a car and a forensic tent.
Crews removed the car from the scene on Tuesday morning; a blue forensics tent now stands erected on the grass.
Members of the public laid flowers at the scene on Monday afternoon.
Lois Speed stated: "The community is in shock at what has happened. My thoughts are with everyone that has been impacted."
Mike Ness added: "Our thoughts remain with those affected by these events. Members of the public will see an increased police presence and activity in the area as enquiries continue."
He further urged anyone with information to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0008 of Monday, 3 August 2026.
