Filming for Love Island South Africa has been postponed due to safety concerns.
Production halted on Saturday, January 10, as ITV prioritized health and safety for the cast and crew.
ITV confirmed that following a production evacuation due to the wildfires, a site assessment determined that filming must be postponed. The villa itself was evacuated over the weekend as a safety precaution.
Multiple wildfires are currently burning across South Africa's Western and Eastern Cape regions, exacerbated by high temperatures, shifting winds, and prolonged dry conditions.
Residents in several areas, including Zwartenbosch, Oyster Bay Road, Kromme River, and Riverside, have been evacuated. The Love Island villa is located at the Ludus Magnus Estate, approximately one hour from Cape Town in the Western Cape.
The new series features several returning contestants, including Whitney Adebayo, Millie Court, and Leanne Amaning. ITV stated that everyone involved is safe and that they are working to bring an iconic series to viewers.
Bosses are reportedly hoping to resume filming on Wednesday, January 14. An insider claimed they are aiming to restart production on that date, though the delay is reportedly costing ITV over £15,000 per hour.
It remains unclear if the series duration will be shortened to ensure the finale airs as originally planned. ITV has not yet confirmed a revised premiere date for the show.
In a separate development, ITV announced that 30-minute episodes of Emmerdale and Coronation Street will air every night starting in 2026. Emmerdale will broadcast at 8pm, followed by Coronation Street at 8:30pm.
