Voting has commenced across several US states in pivotal midterm elections.
Record numbers of citizens have already participated in early voting. US citizens residing in London received urgent calls to cast their ballots in these critical midterm elections.
These elections function as a direct referendum on Donald Trump's presidential record. His administration oversaw federal immigration enforcement, mass deportations, and cuts to government agencies and Medicaid funding, while also supporting the restriction of abortion rights.
The administration expanded presidential power, pursuing efforts related to gerrymandering and curtailing voting rights. Donald Trump promised $5,000 to every adult US citizen if his party retains control of both the House and Senate, and stated he would issue pardons if needed.
Historically, the party occupying the White House typically loses congressional seats during midterm elections. Opinion surveys suggest Democrats are well-positioned to win the House.
The Department of Justice filed a lawsuit to block the certification of Alaska’s Senate results if a Republican defeat occurred, citing potential “voter confusion” over the presence of two Dan Sullivans on the ballot. A judge has since dismissed that lawsuit.
Control of both the US Senate and House of Representatives hangs in the balance. The fight for the Senate remains uncertain.
