Robert Jenrick has defected to Reform UK.
More than 20 former Conservative MPs have now joined the Reform Party, signaling a potential realignment of the British right.
Robert Jenrick claimed the Conservatives had 'broken Britain.' He insisted he put personal ambitions aside to join Reform, a party he believes more accurately embodies his core values.
In response, Kemi Badenoch accused Jenrick of telling a litany of lies. She warned that he would eventually 'stab his new colleagues in the back.'
Badenoch also stated that Farage had done her 'spring cleaning' for her. She doubled down on her stance, insisting she would never strike a deal with Reform.
Ben Obese-Jecty described Jenrick as a 'man of no principles.' Meanwhile, Nigel Farage welcomed Jenrick to the fold, framing the move as part of a broader exodus toward a party that represents its constituents.
Farage hinted that more departures are imminent. He even joked about welcoming a defector from the Labour Party as early as next week if the opportunity arose.
Labour criticized Farage for welcoming Jenrick, suggesting that Reform UK is becoming a refuge for failed Tory politicians.
Despite the criticism, losing a former leadership contender marks a substantial setback for Badenoch's shadow cabinet.
Badenoch's performances and poll ratings have noticeably improved. However, the May election results are expected to be dreadful for the Tories and may yet precipitate a leadership crisis.
Nick Timothy is expected to replace Robert Jenrick as Shadow Justice Secretary. The Conservative Party is attempting to project a unified front amidst the turmoil.
