Mary Davidson Smith Celebrates 105th Birthday with Global Tributes

Mary Davidson Smith, a Royal Navy veteran, marked her 105th birthday at Care UK's Murrayside care home in Edinburgh, receiving 105 cards from across the globe.
The celebration gathered family and friends for an afternoon tea, meticulously prepared by chef Jose.
Ms. Smith expressed astonishment at the outpouring of well-wishes, stating, "This is incredible! I’ve never seen so many cards, and they’re all for me."

Among the numerous cards received, a greeting from King Charles continued a cherished tradition.
She had previously received a card from Queen Elizabeth, linking her to a historical recognition of the nation's oldest citizens.
Care UK’s Murrayside care home initiated the appeal for these cards, with Suzanne Welsh, the home manager, spearheading the community effort.
This initiative ensured a grand recognition for Ms. Smith, as over 200 cards arrived.
Ms. Smith's life journey includes distinguished service in the Royal Navy.
She met her husband, Charles Wynard Davidson Smith, in Washington DC during her naval tenure.
Together, they raised two sons, Neil and Mark, building a family that now extends to four grandchildren.
Her personal history gained further prominence through a private tour of the National Museum of Scotland, where she reunited with a Korean outfit from her youth.
This tangible link to her past provided a profound connection to her younger years.
Reflecting on her advanced age, Ms. Smith humorously remarked, "I’m glad you didn’t have 105 candles; I don’t have enough breath for that!"
