Man Arrested After Brighton Beach Rape Allegation
Sussex Police cordon seafront as investigation into early morning incident continues; victim receives specialist support.

A woman in her 20s was allegedly raped on Brighton beach during the early hours of Wednesday morning.
A cordon now stretches along the seafront, encompassing the area between the 360 Tower and the volleyball courts. Sussex Police confirmed the arrest; an investigation is underway.
The victim receives support from specialist trained officers, a detail Sussex Police confirmed. Adam Hays commended the victim's bravery, stating, "I commend the bravery of the victim who came forward to report this and who we continue to support with specialist officers."

Hays also addressed community concerns, noting, "We are aware of the concern this incident will have caused in the community and will continue to work tirelessly with our partners to create a hostile environment for those who seek to come to the city for the purpose of offending against vulnerable people." This incident follows a separate alleged sexual assault in Madeira Drive, Brighton, on Sunday, 2 August.
Separately, Akiyas Jameldeen, 51, faces charges of two counts of oral rape and one count of sexual assault by penetration in connection with the Madeira Drive incident; he was remanded in custody. Last October, three men—Ibrahim Alshafe, Abdulla Ahmadi, and Karin Al-Danasurt—received sentences for raping a woman on Brighton beach.
