A video recording device was found in a bathroom on HMAS Leeuwin.
The Australian Defence Force treats the incident with extreme seriousness, referring the matter to the Joint Military Police Unit, which works alongside civilian authorities.
HMAS Leeuwin remained alongside in port, supporting affected crew members.
The ship remains in Cairns, facilitating the ongoing investigation.
Vice Admiral Matt Buckley addressed naval officers regarding the incident on Thursday.
Senator Jacqui Lambie claims a hidden camera had been found in a female shower facility onboard the naval ship.
Lambie further claims images captured by the device may have been published online.
The matter is yet to be referred to Queensland Police, an unconfirmed claim states.
Lambie also claims concealed cameras have recently been found in the female sailors’ showers facilities on the vessel HMAS Leeuwin, based in Cairns.
Footage from the cameras may have already been uploaded online before the devices were discovered, Lambie claims.
My highest priority, as always, is the wellbeing of our people.
Vice Admiral Matt Buckley stated, "My highest priority, as always, is the wellbeing of our people."
Buckley condemned the act, stating, "This act is the most despicable betrayal of trust and is fundamentally misaligned with our values."
Senator Jacqui Lambie pressed the Navy for answers, asking, "How many of our female sailors have unknowingly been recorded in their most private moments? How much footage has been distributed online so far, retained or uploaded without knowledge or consent? These are the questions today I ask Navy."
