The Government has reached an out-of-court settlement with Sir Olly Robbins.
His dismissal connects directly to the vetting process for Lord Mandelson, announced as the UK's ambassador to the US in December 2024 and formally taking up the role in February 2025.
The FDA union claims officials made Sir Olly a "scapegoat" for what it described as Sir Keir's "misjudgement." Foreign Office officials took the rare step of overruling a failed background check to clear Lord Mandelson's appointment.
I am grateful for all the support and good wishes from former colleagues, friends and strangers, which have helped me and my family during this difficult time.
Sir Olly Robbins expressed gratitude for the support received during this period. He stated, "I am grateful for all the support and good wishes from former colleagues, friends and strangers, which have helped me and my family during this difficult time."
He also thanked the FDA for their role in the resolution. Sir Olly added, "I want to thank the FDA for their assistance in reaching this settlement and I am looking forward to moving on to the next chapter of my life."
The government has been contacted for comment regarding the settlement.
