Five cases of the deadly Nipah virus have been confirmed in India's West Bengal state, prompting the quarantine of nearly 100 individuals this month.
The Nipah virus carries a lethal fatality rate ranging between 40% and 75%, a figure heavily dictated by the speed and quality of local medical intervention. This volatility places an immense burden on regional healthcare systems during active outbreaks.

The government has extended these alerts to Nepal, implementing health checks at all major border crossings. Strict quarantine protocols are now mandatory for anyone suspected of contact with infected individuals or contaminated environments.
The virus's lengthy incubation period allows individuals to become infectious before they appear ill, complicating early detection. Mastering these transmission dynamics is the only way to develop effective strategies to curb the current spread.
