Chelsea set a firm £120m valuation and deadline for Enzo Fernandez last Friday.
Rumors of a potential departure from Stamford Bridge persist, even as Fernandez returned to training with Chelsea after extended leave following the World Cup.
Xabi Alonso confirmed Fernandez's commitment, stating, "Enzo is a Chelsea player. He’s a top, top player. He’s training really well since he started 10 days ago with the team, very integrated. We are happy with him and he’s getting ready for Monday."
Alonso also claims Fernandez expressed a desire to remain at Chelsea this season.
Manchester City is still expected to test Chelsea’s resolve before the transfer window closes on September 1.
Manchester City reportedly missed a transfer deadline for Enzo Fernandez; Chelsea set a Friday 5 p.m. BST deadline for an offer meeting their £120m valuation.
Chelsea insisted Fernandez would not leave if the bid was not received.
Chelsea now expects the player to remain at the club until next summer, although last week’s deadline reportedly had no official relevance.
This means Fernandez could still be signed before the end of the transfer window by City or another club, should all parties agree.
Chelsea sources claim the club would now seek more than £120m for Fernandez if City were to officially open talks.
Fernandez was jeered by some fans during a pre-season friendly against Real Sociedad.
In other squad news, Joao Pedro signed a new contract with Chelsea and took the No. 9 shirt from Liam Delap.
Chelsea's Premier League opener against Fulham is scheduled for Monday, with Fernandez reportedly getting ready for the match.
Despite the club's expectation for Fernandez to stay until at least next summer, he could still technically be sold before the transfer window closes on September 1.
