Britto Lorence Sentenced for Public Indecency on Emirates Flight
Defendant received an 18-month community order despite later claims of pressure to plead guilty.

Britto Lorence received an 18-month community order for outraging public decency.
District Judge Kate Meek declared, "Your guilty plea stands. You're convicted by your guilty plea and you fall to be sentenced."
The judge stressed the gravity, stating, "It is also going to be treated more seriously because the people affected by it were passengers on a plane and they couldn't absent themselves from the situation and one of those people sat next to you was a very young child."

Lorence traveled on an Emirates flight from Dubai to Newcastle in June last year when the incident occurred. He was seated next to a woman and her young son.
Brian Payne, prosecuting, detailed the victim's account: "[The victim] described the male [Lorence] having a pillow on his lap and he initially appeared to be asleep."
The woman then noticed Lorence performing a sex act with a blanket over his lap, Payne confirmed. She raised the alarm by going to cabin staff.
District Judge Meek addressed Lorence's actions directly: "You were masturbating and the harm that was caused indicates a community order."
Lorence initially pleaded not guilty to the charge but changed his plea to guilty on the day his trial was due to start.
District Judge Meek acknowledged, "I acknowledge you pleaded guilty on the day of your trial but you have then done all you can to try and set aside that plea so you will receive a very small amount of credit."
Lorence, who held a visa to work in the UK and managed a cafe, still denies committing the offense. He claimed 'pressure' forced his admission.
