Anthropic filed papers Monday to sell shares to the public for the first time.
The AI firm, valued by analysts and investors at over $1.5 trillion, reported a net loss of $80.7 billion in the first half of 2026. This figure dwarfs the $13 billion loss recorded for the same period just one year prior.
Anthropic's flagship product, the Claude chatbot, anchors its market presence. CEO Dario Amodei founded the company after his departure from OpenAI, a competitor also slated for an early next year public listing.
The Trump administration designated Anthropic a supply chain risk. This classification bars military agencies from contracting with the company. Anthropic has formally challenged this blacklisting.

One of the most consequential technologies in human history.

Anthropic
The company asserts artificial intelligence stands as "one of the most consequential technologies in human history." It claims AI has the capacity to "improve the quality of human life." It further claims AI could serve as a "powerful lever for economic growth."
Anthropic also posits AI's potential to accelerate scientific innovation. It suggests AI could cure diseases that have plagued humanity for millennia, including cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, heart disease, rare genetic diseases and major infectious diseases. This declaration arrives as tech companies collectively poured over $1 trillion into AI infrastructure and tools in the past year alone.
Despite its current financial trajectory, Anthropic's public offering valuation is projected to surpass that of SpaceX.
