Carlos Alcaraz will return to competitive tennis at the US Open after a four-month absence.
The Spanish tennis star, sidelined with a wrist injury since April, confirmed his comeback in a joint Instagram post with football influencer Fabrizio Romano.
Romano declared, "Here we go! Carlos Alcaraz will return to the tour at the US Open after spending four months sidelined with a right wrist injury. Ready to come back."
Here we go! Carlos Alcaraz will return to the tour at the US Open after spending four months sidelined with a right wrist injury. Ready to come back.
Alcaraz echoed the sentiment, posting "here we go!" on X, complete with an American flag and plane emoji, as he prepares for the singles event commencing Sunday, August 30, in New York.
His return follows a training camp in Murcia, Spain, where he reportedly partnered with Holger Rune, who is also making his way back to the court after rupturing his Achilles in October 2023.
The US Open has announced a record prize fund of $108 million, marking a 20 percent increase for the second consecutive year.
This historic payout is understood to be an effort by tournament directors to prevent a recurrence of player protests, such as those observed at both the French Open and Wimbledon.
A new grand slam player advisory council is also set to be established following the US Open, aiming to address player concerns.
Alcaraz's comeback could see him contend in the mixed doubles tournament, scheduled for next week.
Last year, Alcaraz partnered with Emma Raducanu in mixed doubles; Raducanu is reportedly unlikely to participate in New York this year due to a stress fracture in her right shin.
Jannik Sinner currently holds the world number one ranking, with Alexander Zverev at world number two.
